Chicago Referencing Style Guide - - Trent University
As parenthetical citation is the preferred method of citation in political science for research papers, you may wish to skip the rest of this document and instead review the style sheet I provide for this type of citation on my website.
How to Cite Sources According to AMA, 9th EDITION 1
Despite my preferences, I have provided this style sheet because several major political science journals and most academic books still use footnotes (citations at the bottom of the page on which materials are fully referenced) or endnotes (with endnotes, full citation information is ed at the end of the paper) that conform to the Chicago Manual of Style.
Creating Footnotes In Chicago Style - IVCC
In my classes, I ask that you not use endnotes because I often spot-check student citations, which is easier when bibliographic references are provided on the same page as the citation.
Turabian Chicago Style Documentation - UIS
Sometimes, you will find that ideas have come from several works, in which case a single citation note should be used to denote the sources, which all will be listed in the endnote (normally, sources are listed either in order of importance to your argument or by date of publication).
